Sodium pyrithione is mainly used for antisepsis and mold proofing in the fields of personal care products (shampoo and hair care products), building coating, adhesive, sealant, pesticide, textile, leatherware, metal processing liquid. This 2-Mercaptopyridine N-oxide sodium salt also can be used to formulate antiseptics, washing chemicals, and broad-spectrum dermatological antifungal medicines. Moreover, sodium pyrithione is an effective bactericide for fruit trees, peanuts, wheat, and vegetables and antiseptics for silkworm use.
