Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is also called methylparaben. This paraben is a white crystalline powder or colorless crystals. It is freely soluble in alcohol, ether, and acetone and very slightly soluble in water. Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate boiling point is 270~280℃.

Uses:

Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is mainly used as an antiseptic in foodstuffs, medicine, and cosmetics. Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can also be used in feed as an antiseptic. Because of its phenolic hydroxyl structure, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate has more potent antibacterial properties than benzoic acid and sorbic acid.
